Acting is not new for me, as I have already acted in many Assamese movies. I have experience in direction as well. Being behind the camera has surely helped me in understanding what goes into making a movie. But, frankly , I never imagined that I would be lucky enough to get a role in a Bollywood movie. This is a big break for me. It’s good to see that Bollywood is recognizing new talent.” says in an interview with TOI.
Talking about her role in the movie, Rajni says, “I will be playing Mary Kom’s mother. It was a big challenge for me. The director was looking for various options, but I was lucky to get the role. Moreover, I was suited for the role not only because of my northeastern looks, but also because of my acting skills. They had faith that I would do justice to the role, hence I got selected. I have read a lot about Mary Kom, and she has really struggled a lot in life. Her life story is very inspiring and I think it sets an example for every Indian woman. My role will portray how Mary’s mother played an important role in her life and success.“
Sharing her experience of working with Priyanka Chopra, Rajni says, “Priyanka has really worked hard for the role. She is a very nice human being and a great actor. She was very supportive and encouraging on the sets. We really had a good time during the shooting of the movie. She is an absolutely chilled-out and happy person. Priyanka made me feel so comfortable on the sets that I never felt like I was acting with a big star.”
