After a very successful crowdfunding campaign on Wishberry.in, the makers of Assam’s favorite martial arts film confirmed clearance of the second edition of the film- Local Kung Fu 2, by the Guwahati Censor Committee.

Taking to Facebook to share the good news, the Local Kung Fu 2 team shared a post on Sunday morning that said, “RELEASING APRIL 19TH (Barring major natural and technical disasters). Good news! The Guwahati censor committee passed LKF 2 without a SINGLE cut! Here we are after the censor screening. Truly wonderful that the censor committee members were open-minded people.”

The makers of Local Kung Fu 2 believe that the fans have been the biggest strength of the film, and without them, the first film would not have been so successful. So, the team has been constantly engaging with the fans through their Facebook page ever since the announcement of the second installment of the cult classic, right from their difficult summer shoot, to the success of the crowdfunding campaign and the approval from the censor committee.

The team recently shared a glimpse of the first song of Local Kung Fu 2 – Maya Bhora Jeebon on their Facebook page. The video shows Utkal Hazowary, Bibhash Sinha, Bonny Deori aka Bonzo, and other team members lending their voice to the song- another example of the do-it-yourself theme of the film. The song received more than 6,500 views and over 400 likes and has been shared by around 100 people.

Here’s the song

“I am very thankful to the CBFC committee and officials for processing and passing our film quickly”, said Actor-Director Kenny Basumatary after collecting the censor certificate today.

Local Kung Fu, released in 2013, became a pop culture phenomenon in the Northeast as the dialogues still find their way into regular conversations. With Local Kung Fu 2, director Kenny Basumatary has adapted William Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors for the silver screen. Scheduled to be released on April 19th, the film has been shot in both Assamese and Hindi and will be the first ever sequel in Assamese cinema.
