The upcoming much-awaited feature film on witch hunting problem AEI MAATITE has done ‘many firsts’ in Assamese cinema. One of them is introducing number of prominent faces in the cinema world. Out of the many new faces in AEI MAATITE, three will be for looked out. The film is releasing on 6th October 2017 across Assam and other parts of North East.
The lead female character ‘Devajani’ in the film has been enacted by Monisha Goswami. A former student of Cotton College, AEI MAATITE is her debut film. The girl from Jorhat had performed in many stage plays and TV serials earlier.
Jhon Narzary from Kokrajhar is playing the negative character in his first Assamese feature film AEI MAATITE. A natural actor, Jhon is surely surprise the movie lovers and will redefine portrayal of negative characters in Assamese cinema.
The biggest surprise is going to be in the form of renowned folk singer Jina Rajkumari. In her first ever appearance on the big screen, Jina has portrayed a very important character in AEI MAATITE. Assamese movie lovers will surely discover a hidden talent of acting inside Jina, who is working for many years across the state on preserving folk songs of different tribes.
Commenting on introducing new faces to Assamese cinema, AEI MAATITE’s Director Dr Sitanath Lahkar said: “It has always been my endeavour to have newcomers in whatever projects I have carried out so far. Introducing fresh blood to any field enrich that particular segment in the long run. The energy of newcomers always boosts the entire production unit.
“AEI MAATITE is full of new faces. I believe, they are going to be valuable addition to Assamese cinema. The hardworking Jina, Monisha and Jhon are surely going to surprise the audience. Their performance does not give an iota of hint that it is their first feature film. As a director, I am happy that they delivered to the maximum of their capability.”
In total, AEI MAATITE has over 100 characters and most of them are played by first timers like Lalit Sarma, Smita Lahkar, Bhupesh Sharma, Satyajit Gogoi, Trideep Lahkar, Raj Kumar Roy, Kumar Jyoti Sarma, Rajib Bayan, Manabendra Bhattacharya, Thomas Tumung, Utpal Kumar Das, Reena Teron, Dr Bijoya Goswami, Tapashya Barua, Kritima Das, Abani Sutradhar, Biju Buragohain, Abhinav Hazarika, Jubeel Kashyap, Rupeswari Rahang, Apurba Malakar, Aman Rahang, Nabajyoti Das, Tarun Oja, Anuja Singha, Nitul Kumar Medhi, Garga Barman, Dhan Bishaya, Dhruba Jyoti Sarma, Achyut Malakar, Rituparna Saikia, Tehruddin Ahmed, Bhudhar Barman, Layanu Das, Rubee Barooah Das, Bhaskar Sharma, Chitra Barma, Binod Saikia, Tilottama Sharma, SBL Boro, Rita Devi and Sabdi Bharadwaj.
Dr Lahkar himself essayed a pivotal role in AEI MAATITE. The lead male character is portrayed by Rupam Chetia. Other prominent senior actors and actresses in the film are Anil Das, Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury, Chetana Das, Bimal Jyoti Choudhury, Dr Rajeev Doley, Rajib Kro, Meena Ingti and Sasanka Samir.
A few other important characters of the film are enacted by former Inspector General of Police S P Kar and Thengal-Kachari Autonomous Council CEM Kumud Kachari. AASU leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi, ABSU leader Pramod Boro, SFI leader Nirangkush Nath and Satra Mukti leader Bittu Sonowal have also acted in the film
