Hailing from Assam, four talented musicians got together in the glitz and glamour world of Mumbai to form a musical friendship that resulted in a band called Daksha. Initially formed by lead vocalist Pranjal Medhi and bassist Himangshu Bora, the band soon enlisted two other members – guitarist Dishankan Baruah and drummer Simanta Choudhury. Having grown up with music, they have really proved themselves with their individual achievements.
In addition to winning the music competition ‘Jhankar’ organized by Rong channel, singer Pranjal Medhi has performed on Rhythm 8, a popular musical programme shown on MTV Indies. On the other hand, Himangshu has won the prestigious ‘Yamaha Asian Beats’ competition as the best bassist in 2011. He was also nominated as a best bassist player at the ‘Rolling Stone Awards’ show held in 2013. The same year, Dishankan Baruah was nominated as the best guitarist at the ‘Rolling Stone Awards’. The band’s drummer Simanta Choudhury is an endorsee of the world famous company ‘Meinl Cymbals’.
The band has recently released their much anticipated self-titled debut audio album in Assamese. An outstanding effort, ‘Daksha’ with its fresh sound, innovative ideas is likely to take the music scene by storm. Produced by Dharitri Medhi, this 7-track album is deep with memorable songs like ‘Xomoy’, ‘Tejal Ratipua’, ‘Abhiman’, ‘Kheyali Mon’, ‘Ghurai Aana’, among others, and is composed and arranged by the Daksha band members themselves. Pranjal Medhi is truly a singer with one of the most powerful, distinctive voices on the scene. He has rendered all the songs with unusual passion. The album also features superb music arrangements from the band members. While Prodyut Barua and Geet Priyam have written three songs each, Jyoti Medhi and Pankaj have jointly written one song in the album. The album is mixed and mastered by Diganta Sharma, and recorded by Dipankar.
