Dr Bezbarua’s Sequel to Thrill People Once Again

‘Dr. Bezbarua’ – the Assamese movie made over 50 years ago, is rightly hailed as a classic. Recently, in a heartening news for the movie’s legions of fans, a all-new sequel that continues the cult story – ‘Dr. Bezbarua II’, was announced by AM Television Pvt Ltd, and it will be presented by Sanjive Narain and co-produced by Akshata Narain in association with NR Motion Pictures.

Directed by the veteran artiste Nipon Goswami, the film will star Adil Hussain, Zubeen Garg, Sidharth Goswami, Kingkini Goswami and Nipon Goswami himself, among others. With music by Zubeen Garg, the film’s story and screenplay has been written by Rajdweep. Hriday Gogoi is the director of photography of the movie.

It may be mentioned that the cinematic journey, undertaken 50 years ago, took Assamese filmdom to a new direction. ‘Dr Bezbarua’, released on November 7, 1969, was not only the first Assamese thriller and the first successful commercial movie in Assam, it was also honoured with the National Film Award. Produced under the banner of Rang Ghar Cine Production, the legendary movie was directed by the inimitable Brajen Barua, who was at the peak of creativity.

It was a cinematic experience that evoke memories of a time when Brajen Barua’s inspiring direction and elegant lyrics, Dwipen Barua’s enchanting voice, Ramen Barua’s enduring music and Nipon Goswami’s charm transported the audiences to a different world. The blockbuster film was a novelty in commercial filmmaking, which set a new standard, and inspired a generation of filmmakers of the State.

The much anticipated ‘Dr. Bezbarua II’ will surely test the creative abilities and technical competencies of the cast and crew, including that of director Nipon Goswami, actor Adil Hussain, and music director Zubeen Garg. It’s highly hoped that the film will soar straight into the hearts of movie-goers after five decades.
