Muhurat, Poster Release of Assamese Film ‘Gangs of a Family’

The Muhurat of Assamese feature film ‘Gangs of a Family’ by filmmaker Javed Kaisar was held at Jyoti Chitraban in Guwahati in presence of cast, crew and a host of dignitaries on January 19.

‘Gangs of a Family’, written and directed by Javed Kaisar, is a film set in the 1990s of Assam and is based on an illegal agarwood perfume exporter and a property dispute after his death.

The film, produced by Mustaba Ali and Javed Kaisar, is being produced under the banner of Boyhood Entertainment. The cast includes Podmarag Goswami, Rajiv Kro, Manoj Gogoi, Joyoshree Chakarborty, Rajkumar Thakur, Dipankar Gayan, Sharif Mirza, Durgashree Borah and Pranami Bora playing pivotal roles.

Speaking on the subject of the film, executive producer and casting director, Nang Anne Gogoi said: “This is a very interesting story of a family who were involved in illegal agarwood perfume business and how they manage their work after the death of their head of the family. There is an ongoing workshop on the film and I am very excited to see the enthusiasm of the cast and crew. The shoot will begin on January 25, and we will be completing it within 30 days.”

It is worth mentioning that noted actor Pabitra Rabha of ‘Bob Biswas’ fame is conducting a workshop with the cast and crew of the film.

“The film is set in the Assam of the 1990s when there was a ban on agarwood trading. ‘Gangs of a Family’ tells the story of a trader who was involved in illegal agarwood business. This will be a wholesome entertainment film and I am very excited to present this story before you,” writer-director Javed Kaisar.

‘Gangs of a Family’ is 26-year-old Kaisar’s first Assamese feature film.

Noted cinematographer Nahid Ahmed is the director of photography while music for the film is being designed by Kaysee and Probin Kalita.

Other crew members include make-up artist Biswajit Kalita, Prakash Mehta on VFX, David Nadar on DI and editing, action director Pradeep Bhabesh ATC, original theme and background score by Vivek Sharma, chief assistant director Samar Jyoti Sarkar, assistant directors Farzin Baluch and Dhrubajyoti Talukdar, production manager Manoj Kumar Nath, art director Pramod Das and dialogues by Javed Kaisar and Neel Barman.

Along with the muhurat of the film on January 19, the poster of ‘Gangs of a Family’ was also unveiled in front of the cast, crew and the invited dignitaries.

The film will be shot at various locations in and around Guwahati, Mirza, Mangaldoi and Kukurmara.
