Stone Cold was the first Jesse Stone feature film, which was released in 2005. The movie – which aired on CBS and starred James Naughton as Jesse Stone – focused on a small-town police chief who investigates a murder.

When the film aired, it was a smash for the network, so plans were made to make another episode. In 2006, as part of a follow-up to Night Passage, came Night Passage.

A third film, titled Death in Paradise, aired on CBS a few months after Night Passage debuted. A fourth film was released in 2007 with a fifth following in 2009, before moving to Netflix for the series’ last two seasons.

Jesse Stone was a very successful television series on CBS. However, the network made the decision to end the show after eight seasons because they were moving in a new direction with their programming.

Hallmark decided to pick up the Jess Stone series for a ninth movie after seeing that the first eight movies were successful. The new movie, Lost in Paradise, aired in 2015.

The Overview of Jesse Stone Movies

The character is about 35 years old and he used to play baseball, but he stopped because he got injured. He was raised in Arizona and California. He used to be a detective, but he had to quit his job because of his drinking problem. Stone goes to an interview for the job of police chief for the small town of Paradise, Massachusetts.

The president of the town board of selectmen thinks Stone will be easy to control, so he hires him. Stone quickly realizes that the town has some big problems, like with the mob, wild wives, and a triple homicide. He knows his job will be harder than he expected, but he proves himself by starting with making a corruption case against the town council president and arresting him.

The show follows Stone’s experiences as the police chief of Paradise, as well as his difficulties with alcohol and his rocky relationship with ex-wife Jenn. He is well-liked and respected by his colleagues in the local police force. He develops a good rapport with them, and he even becomes friends with the State Police Homicide Commander, Captain Healy.

The creation of Jesse Stone, a deeply disturbed individual, was an unusual move for the writer. “Jesse is a much more damaged person who is coming to terms with himself as he goes along,” Parker noted when comparing Stone to Spenser, the hero of his first series and the one for which he was best known.

There is some overlap of characters with the Spenser books, notably with Healy and Sunny Randall, and (in Night and Day) indirectly with Susan Silverman.
